If is necessary or desirable to reduce your oil painting equipment to a minimum, how little could you get by with? Clearly you would need a surface to paint on, a surface to mix your colors on, something to mix them with, plus something to clean things up. So what gets reduced is the number of brushes and the number of colors. This list is the least I could be happy with.

 

Canvas or other painting surface

Citrus thinner

Linseed oil

Palette

Palette knife

Bristle flat brushes 1 1/4 inches wide, 1 inch wide, 3/4 inches wide and two, 1/2 inch wide.

Sable flat brushes 1/2 inch wide, 1/4 inch wide and two sizes of small rounds

 

 

Colors:

A large tube of Titanium White

 

Smaller tubes of:

Cadmium yellow pale

Cadmium Orange

Cadmium Red

Quinacridone Rose

Dioxazine Violet

French Ultramarine Blue

Cadmium Green
